Seasonal Influenza Vaccination School Outreach Programme

Seasonal Influenza Vaccination School Outreach Programme
2024-11-15

Arrangement for 2024/25 Season (Latest Information)

Vaccination is one of the most effective ways to prevent seasonal influenza and its complications. To increase seasonal influenza vaccination (SIV) uptake amongst school students and to facilitate schools in arranging outreach vaccination, the Government launches the Seasonal Influenza Vaccination School Outreach Programme for all schools including secondary schools, primary schools, kindergartens, kindergarten-cum-child care centres, child care centres, special schools and special child care centres.

Schools may select to
join the Seasonal Influenza Vaccination School Outreach Programme (SIVSOP) and/ or the Vaccination Subsidy Scheme (VSS) School Outreach Programme to provide free or/and subsidised seasonal influenza vaccination for school children.

Some schools have not yet arranged outreach SIV activities. Parents of these schools are advised to arrange vaccination for their children at clinics of private doctors enrolled in the Vaccination Subsidy Scheme.

"Seasonal Influenza Vaccination (SIV) School Outreach Programme"

The Department of Health (DH) will arrange Public-Private-Partnership vaccination teams or DH Vaccination Team to provide free SIV for participating school children. The vaccines will be provided by the DH, and a subsidy of $105 per dose will be given to doctors. Kindergartens and child-care centres can choose both injectable inactivated influenza vaccines (IIV) and live attenuated influenza vaccines (LAIV) (i.e., nasal vaccines) for the same or different outreach vaccination activities.

"Vaccination Subsidy Scheme (VSS) School Outreach Programme"

Schools enrolled under this programme can select a doctor and make arrangements for the outreach activity, including the type of vaccine to be provided. The Government will provide a subsidy of $260 per dose to the doctor. In addition to schoolchildren, other individuals such as school staff and students’ parents can also receive SIV during the outreach vaccination activity.
