Objectives: Mathematical modelling is a valuable technique in infectious disease epidemiology. Not uncommonly, public health workers come across mathematical models and their outputs. In order to make sense out of the 'conclusions' drawn from these modelling approaches, an understanding of the techniques used, their strengths and limitations, assumptions made, and how these assumptions affect projections and interpretation of the results are all critical. This short course aims at facilitating conceptual understanding and promoting practical application of mathematical modelling among health care professionals.
