Community efforts to tackle HIV/AIDS and TB
The fight against infections like HIV/AIDS and TB continues to be a major public health challenge as these diseases have significant social impacts as well as long term public health consequences. Concerted efforts by the Government, NGOs and stakeholders in the community are needed to combat these diseases. We will collaborate with our community partners to nurture a supportive and caring environment for those infected and strengthen prevention efforts.
We will continue to provide secretariat support and work closely with the Advisory Council on AIDS in developing new strategies for prevention and control of HIV/AIDS in Hong Kong through review of the latest and projected epidemiological situation, and latest local and international developments and needs. Our "Red Ribbon Centre" will also continue to join forces with NGOs and partners in the community to promote public awareness of HIV prevention and acceptance of infected people.
We will continue to promote public awareness of TB and healthy lifestyles by providing updated TB information for healthcare workers and the general public, and organizing community programmes on World TB Day with stakeholders such as the Hong Kong Tuberculosis, Chest and Heart Diseases Association.
