Prevention of Streptococcus suis Infection
Streptococcus suis can enter the human body through wounds on the skin and cause serious illnesses.
To prevent the infection
• Avoid contact with pigs; otherwise, wash hands as soon as possible after contact
• Wear gloves when handling pigs or raw pork, and avoid injury
• Cover wounds properly with waterproof adhesive dressings
• Raw pork and cooked food should be handled and kept separately
• Pork should be cooked thoroughly before consumption
