CHP confirms two cases of Legionnaires' Disease

The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health today (May 27) is investigating two cases of Legionnaires' Disease (LD).

A spokesman for CHP said investigations so far showed that the two cases are not linked. Case details are as follows:

Age: 68
Sex : Male
District of residence: Wong Tai Sin district
Date of onset: May 4
Symptoms: Fever and shortness of breath
Present condition: Admitted to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital on May 6. Now in stable condition.
Home contacts: His home contacts have no symptoms.
Others: No recent travel history.

Age: 80
Sex : Female
District of residence: Eastern District
Date of onset: May 2
Symptoms: Fever and shortness of breath
Present condition: Admitted to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital on May 6. Now recovered and discharged.
Home contacts: Her home contacts have no symptoms.
Others: No recent travel history.

Cumulative total of Legionnaires' disease in 2006: 8
Local cases: 6
Imported case: 2
Total number of LD cases in recent years: 2 in 2000, 3 in 2001, 4 in 2002, 3 in 2003, 3 in 2004 and 11 in 2005.
