CHP confirms a case of Legionnaires' Disease

The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health today (March 9) confirmed an imported case of Legionnaires' Disease (LD).

Case details are as follows:
Age: 64
Sex : Male
District of residence: Mainland
Date of onset : February 17
Symptom : Shortness of breath, cough, generalized weakness and poor appetite.
Present condition: Admitted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital on February 21. Now in a stable condition.
Home contacts: His family member has no symptom.

Others: Classified as an imported case as the patient stayed in the Mainland during the incubation period before returning to Hong Kong on February 21.

Cumulative total of Legionnaires' disease in 2006: 2
Local case: 1
Imported case: 1

Total number of LD cases in recent years: 2 in 2000, 3 in 2001, 4 in 2002, 3 in 2003, 3 in 2004 and 11 in 2005.
