The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health yesterday (November 30) received a report of a confirmed Legionnaires' Disease (LD).

Case details are as follows:

Age: 80
Sex: Male
District of residence: Wong Tai Sin
Date of onset: November 22, 2004
Symptoms: fever, chills, rigor, malaise
Medical consultation: Consulted a private doctor on November 22 and 24 respectively. Admitted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) on November 25.
Present condition: Admitted to QEH's Intensive Care Unit on November 30 in critical condition
Travel History: Travelled to the Mainland between November 15 and 17, 2004
Home contacts: His wife has no symptoms and has been put under medical surveillance

Action taken: Staff of the CHP and Electrical and Mechanical Services Department visited the patient's home today. Environmental and water samples were collected for laboratory examination.
