Department of Health

Mr Ronald ARCULLI
Chairman, The Hong Kong Jockey Club

The Hong Kong Jockey Club donated HK$500 million for the establishment of the Centre for Health Protection. By enhancing local capabilities to deal with health threats, we can make Hong Kong a healthier place to live.

We are pleased to see that our donation is being deployed effectively, evidenced by the progress made in enhancing the communicable disease surveillance networks, laboratory services, preparation of emergency response plans and development of a structured epidemiology training programme, among many other initiatives.

I congratulate the Centre on its first anniversary and wish the Centre every success in its endeavours.

Mrs Carrie YAU
Chairman, Advisory Committee on Centre for Health Protection

On the first anniversary of the establishment of the Centre for Health Protection (CHP), I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all the members of the Advisory Committee on CHP for all their support and tireless efforts in setting up the CHP.

The hard work and contributions of members of the Advisory Committee was pivotal in bringing the concept of CHP into fruition in a year's time and making it one of the centres of excellence of disease prevention and control in the region.

I am sure that the CHP would continue to strive to upgrade our health protection system, enhance our preparedness and rise to the public health challenges in the years ahead.

Dr William HO
Chief Executive, Hospital Authority

Entering a new health era:

The Centre for Health Protection is already taking Hong Kong into a new era of effective prevention and control of disease and other health hazards. On behalf of the Hospital Authority, I congratulate the Department of Health on the sure and rapid progress of the Centre's activities since June 2004.

On this first anniversary, the Hospital Authority is honoured to be a close partner of the Centre for Health Protection. We are committed to using our own professional capacity and endeavours in synergy with the work of the Centre to help shape Hong Kong into an even healthier community.

I am confident that our partnership will offer a firm blueprint for the future.
