Life Expectancy at Birth (Male and Female), 1971 - 2023

The life expectancies at birth for both sexes have increased from 67.8 years for males and 75.3 years for females in 1971 to 82.5^# years and 87.9^# years respectively in 2023. The expectation of life at birth in 2022 should be interpreted with care as the figures are affected by exceptionally high mortality rates in 2022 during the COVID-19 epidemic. Nevertheless, the life expectancy of both males and females at birth rebounded in 2023 and remained among the highest in the world.
